In this issue: Washington parents organize to reunify families, welcome JenLleras, Western States Center turns 25

Dear friend,

Last month we asked for your help to urge Washington Governor Gregoire to sign Family Assessment Response into law. She did and this month we are happy to share the story behind this victory

Help us welcome a new addition to our team, Jen Lleras. And come to our 25th anniversary celebration on May 3rd

In solidarity,

Nancy Haque

Most families investigated by Washington’s Child Protective Services (CPS) are due to allegations of neglect – inability to provide shelter, food, clothing and other basic needs. The income of these families is less than $20,000 per year.

Having the Family Assessment Response (FAR) in place means changing CPS from a system that disrupts families to protect children, to one that supports and protects families where children can thrive. FAR differentiates families where a child is in imminent danger from families that are in need of support and social services.

Read more on how Catalyst for Kids organized parents with experience in the child welfare system to help pass FAR.
