WILD is a year-long intensive training program for emerging organizers and activists from the West.

The goals of WILD are to:

•    Sharpen the organizing skills and political analysis of emerging leaders in a cross-constituency, cross-issue and peer-supported environment.

•    Create a shared language for organizers from different backgrounds to talk about organizing, power, and vision to contribute to the progressive movement in the West.

•    Develop participants’ proficiency in base-building, member and leader development, and volunteer recruitment and retention.

•    Build relationships between organizers and leaders in the region with a commitment to long term action for change.

How does WILD work?

ALPM
First WILD class in 1994 (formerly known as Advanced Leadership Mentorship Program.)

WILD brings together a small group of emerging organizers over the course of a year.  We’ll meet four times at retreat and conference centers in the Portland metro area (June 24 – 26, 2016 and January, May and August of 2017). The fourth session is a shorter gathering timed with AMP (Activists Mobilizing for Power), our unique three-day training and networking conference, which WILD participants will attend and help make happen. Potential applicants will need to have their organization’s endorsement of their participation.

What are the goals of WILD?

  • To sharpen the organizing skills and political analysis of emerging leaders in a cross-constituency, cross-issue and peer-supported environment.
  • To create a shared language for organizers from different backgrounds to talk about organizing, power, and vision to contribute to the progressive movement in the West.
  • To develop participants’ proficiency in base-building, member and leader development, research skills, and volunteer recruitment and retention.

Who is WILD for?

WILD is geared toward emerging community organizers and activists. Folks with 1-5 years’ experience in social justice organizations, new staff or board members, or organizers who haven’t had access to formal training programs are encouraged to apply. We strongly prefer applicants who have an organizational affiliation (that is, people working for, or board leaders of, organizations doing social justice work).

Potential WILD participants:

  • work at or with an organization committed to community organizing and social justice
  • have some experience with organizing, but not more than 5 years experience
