Trump Distracts from Portland Failure with Push into Additional Cities

Eric Ward, executive director of the Western States Center in Portland, Ore., issued the following statement:

“President Trump went to war with the wrong city. He pulled federal agents away from their jobs and ordered them to violently crack down on free expression in Portland. But when the community united in opposition, the political stunt blew up in his face.

“Now Trump is threatening to send federal agents to other cities, and his attorney general announced a law enforcement ‘surge’ today. The expansion is a clear effort to distract from his blunder in Portland and score political points off the back of American cities.

“Trump is doubling down on his Portland failure. He has picked a fight with all Americans who believe in upholding the Constitution, and it’s not a fight he can win.”
