Open Sign-On Letter from Oregon Elected and Community Leaders Denouncing Political Violence and Upholding Election Integrity

As elected officials and community leaders, in preparation for the 2024 general election, we reaffirm our shared commitment and responsibility to protect and uphold our democracy.

1. We condemn political violence: We condemn any form of political violence, intimidation, or harassment. We affirm that there is no place for violence in our democracy, and we will work to ensure the safety and security of all Oregonians throughout the election process and beyond.

2. We commit to respectful discourse: We will encourage and participate in respectful, constructive dialogue that seeks to bridge divides rather than deepen them. We will not use threats or harassment and will not elevate actors who engage in violence or intimidation.

3. We will uphold free and fair elections: We support policies that ensure all voters can exercise their right to vote without fear or intimidation. We commit to accepting the results of a free and fair election and will call on others in our communities to do the same. We will work to ensure transparency and integrity in our voting process.

4. We will foster democracy in our communities: We will promote inclusivity, understanding, and mutual respect, and support efforts to strengthen our communities against division and extremism. We will share resources on how to report concerns, locate election offices and an official drop box, and access reliable election-related information.

In signing onto this letter, we affirm our shared responsibility to uphold the democratic principles that are what make our country and the State of Oregon beautiful and strong.

Signed,
