Liz Yates

Momentum Program Director

Liz is the Director of the Momentum Program at Western States. A native of Seattle currently based in the “other” Washington, Liz has spent more than a decade analyzing and responding to organized bigotry, political violence, and threats to democracy. She has authored numerous reports and articles on topics including election denialism, anti-immigrant xenophobia, anti-Muslim hate crimes, and extremism in the military. In 2022, she testified as an expert witness on the dangers of the Great Replacement Conspiracy Theory before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Liz earned a PhD in Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh and a BA in International Relations at Tufts University.
