Western States Center Statement on Matt Shea
Lindsay Schubiner, program director at Western States Center, released the following statement in response to news that state Rep. Matt Shea will not run for re-election:
“Western States Center welcomes today’s news that Matt Shea will not run for re-election. He repeatedly demonstrated his unfitness for public office, and our only regret is that he was not removed from office by his peers.
“During his time in office, Matt Shea has displayed an obsession with conspiracy theories and violence that is incompatible with public office. His rhetoric and behavior are more consistent with a militia leader than an elected official.
“Even as we welcome the prospect of Shea leaving office, we fully expect him to continue to advance his extremist views as a far-right leader and radio show host. Western States Center will continue to monitor Shea and others aligned with far-right and militia organizations who seek to use elected office to advance their views.”
